It's fair to say that Steven Spielberg is passionate about bringing Stephen King and Peter Straub's The Talisman to screens. He's been trying for 35 years to make it as a movie and then a TV miniseries, but at least the director/producer has gathered a team to actually make it happen, with Stranger Things duo Matt and Ross Duffer to produce a series adaptation for Netflix.

Spielberg actually bought the rights in 1982, two years before the book was published, and holds the deal in perpetuity. Now Curtis Gwinn, who worked on Stranger Things, will handle the heavy lifting of writing and running the show.

The story follows a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer, who sets off on an epic road-trip quest in order to save his dying mother’s life. He is in search of the Talisman, a powerful relic that can not only heal his mother but, as he learns, save the world. Sawyer’s journey criss-crosses two realities: the America we know and its dangerous, fantasy-world twin, The Territories.

Spielberg must be happy that this one is finally making fresh progress towards being made.
