Even with his continued visits to the This Is England story via the TV follow-ups, it feels like a long time since Shane Meadows brought something to our screens. But he's back with new telly miniseries The Virtues, which stars Stephen Graham, and it has a trailer online.
With a script co-written by Jack Thorne, Graham here plays Joseph, a man in search of answers about his past. He's got huge gaps in his memory, but as he tentatively reconnects with family and home, those start to be filled – and not always with good news. The dark chapters of his childhood are soon rushing back to haunt him.
Deidre Donnelly, Aiste Gramantaite, David McSavage, Niamh Algar, Helen Behan, Niamh Cusack and Frank Laverty are also in the cast for the miniseries, due to hit UK screens via Channel 4. US audience will have to wait and see if a channel or streaming service picks the show up.
