The adaptation of David Sheff's memoir went through the movie development wringer for a few years, bouncing between directors like a foster child. Beautiful Boy is finally on its way to screens, with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet starring, and the first trailer online.

This incarnation, written by director Felix Van Groeningen and Lion filmmaker Luke Davies actually blends Shiff's book Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction and his son Nic's Tweak: Growing Up On Methamphetamines. It's the painful, yet hopeful story of David as he reconciles the close relationship he had with his son when he was younger with the struggles of the older Nic, who has dived into addiction to various substances.

Early word on this is positive, with talk of potential awards nominations for both the leads. And with Amy Ryan playing David's wife, we can't help but worry that this is the dark future storyline of the US version of The Office, with Michael Scott and wife Holly dealing with a problem child.
