Back in the dim and distant past that is 2019, we learned that John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds would team up for a new fantasy comedy called Imaginary Friends, with the former writing, directing and co-starring. Krasinski has now found more of the cast, with Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Minari's Alan Kim, Cailey Fleming and Louis Gossett Jr. all now on board.

The film has also undergone a tiny title adjustment, to simply IF (was Krasinski getting tired of saying or typing the whole thing – it's not that long, John!) and remains at Paramount.

Major plot details are naturally thin on the ground at this stage, but it'll essentially follow a man (Reynolds) who can see and talk to people’s imaginary friends, befriending those that have been forgotten or discarded.

However, some imaginary friends, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side, and it’s up to our hero to save the world from those that become evil.

Carell's presence means that the Office (US version) reunion bell is tolling for Krasinski and his former telly boss, while Waller-Bridge and Shaw's hiring also makes this a Killing Eve reunion.

It looks like Krasinski will have the cameras rolling sooner rather than later, as Paramount has already handed out a 17 November, 2023 release date.
