With Philip K. Dick's work back in the popular consciousness thanks to the arrival of Blade Runner 2049 later this year, Amazon will no doubt be hoping that (and its own adaptation of The Man In the High Castle) drive interest in the new project, anthology series Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams. The show has added Steve Buscemi, Mireille Enos and Greg Kinnear.
Aiming to turn Dick's short stories into a show along the lines of The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits, Electric Dreams boasts Bryan Cranston (who will also appear on screen), his Sneaky Pete producing partner Michael Dinner and Battlestar Galactica/Outlander man Ronald D. Moore as executive producers.
Kinnear and Enos are on to appear in an episode called Father Thing, adapted and to be directed by Dinner, which finds humans slowly being replaced by alien monsters. A couple's son has to protect his mother when he realises what is happening. Buscemi will be the star of Crazy Diamond, from The Young Pope's Tony Grisoni, about a man who becomes entangled in an illegal plan with a beautiful – but artificial – woman.
With Timothy Spall, Jack Reynor, Benedict Wong and Geraldine Chapman also in the cast, the series will initially consist of 10 episodes. There's no sign yet of when it might hit the streaming site or its UK home, Channel 4.
