The musical got a new boost thanks to La La Land a couple of years ago and now there's a new original tuner on the way courtesy of writer/director Trey Edward Shults. He has Sterling K. Brown and Lucas Hedges ready to star in Waves.

Shults' last film was the dark, tense, post-apocalyptic It Comes At Night, but this sounds like it'll be something a little less ominous. Described by Variety's sources as a dramatic musical with a fresh spin, it'll follow two young couples as they explore the minefield of aging and falling in love. The plan is to have almost the whole film set to music provided by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

The cameras should be rolling in Florida next month, with more Shults also bringing aboard It Comes At Night's Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Lost In Space's Taylor Russell. Brown will next be seen on UK screens in Hotel Artemis (out 20 July) and has The Predator due on 13 September. He'll also be returning to his regular job as part of the cast of TV's tear-wringing drama This Is Us. Hodges, still best known for Manchester By The Sea is in new drama Boy Erased and has a role in Jonah Hill's directorial debut, Mid '90s'.
