Just yesterday, we brought word that Steven Spielberg would be creating a horror series for new short streaming service Quibi. Now another well-known filmmaking Steven – Soderbergh, this time – is also jumping aboard.

As revealed by co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, who has been aggressively courting filmmakers to create content for his new service, which will put out video content in short chunks like the chapters in a book, Soderbergh seems happy to try his hand. Which is perhaps not shocking given his past experiments with formats and distribution.

"Steven Soderbergh signed on yesterday to produce something for us because literally when he saw one of the incredible aspects of this dual asset that Meg [Whitman, co-founder] was talking about, he said, 'Well, that’s a new type of storytelling, ya know, let me in.'", says Katzenberg. "So he and his partner Mike Sugar are actually producing one of things that we had greenlit because of the attributes of how you can shoot this."

The likes of Antoine Fuqua are already under way on projects for the service, which is launching next April with a number of high profile names involved. As for Soderbergh's next regular film, Panama Papers pic The Laundromat is headed to Netflix this year.
