One is a loveably eccentric, the other plain loveable. Yonderland and Stephen Fry seems like a match made in TV heaven and it’s one whose consummation has just been officially announced via @StephenFry.

Fry

Fry will appear in series three of Sky 1’s entertainingly daffy fantasy adventure as Cuddly Dick. Yes, Cuddly Dick. Facebook friends with Biggus Dickus, we'd imagine.

For those new to the Sky 1 show, Yonderland charts the adventures of Debbie Maddox (Martha Howe-Douglas), a thirtysomething mum who’s beckoned into a strange world by an elf (voiced by Mathew Baynton) and proceeds to have encounters with all manner of weird and wonderful puppet critters. In the third instalment, Debbie and kinda-Dobby will be tackling the evil Negatus (Simon Farnaby).

Fry's character is an enigmatic Elder who's been recently released from prison and has “mysterious depths”. According to those in the know, he's “a charming, avuncular eccentric who loves nothing more than to spread love and kindness (as well as plenty of hugs and kisses)".

“It’s extremely exciting to be bringing back Yonderland to Sky 1 for a third adventure,” says the channel's director Adam MacDonald. "This weirdly wonderful show is well-loved by our audience. With the brilliant addition of Stephen Fry, this is a comedic treat for the whole family.”

Filming kicks off in spring with a likely air date towards the end of 2016.
