Stephen Colbert Joins Peabody & Sherman

While the blowhard pundit he plays on US TV would likely brand it the latest Hollywood-liberal conspiracy to destroy America, the real-life Stephen Colbert seems happy to keep lending his voice to DreamWorks Animation’s output. He’s signed on to Mr Peabody & Sherman along with Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper, Ariel Winter and Stephen Tobolowsky.

Ty Burrell and Max Charles are already aboard to play the titular brainy pooch and his young human sidekick. Now Colbert has been announced as Peter Peterson, Mr Peabody’s nemesis, with Janney as the villain’s wife, Paula Peterson. Winter, who plays one of Burrell’s daughters on sitcom Modern Family, will voice their sprog, Penny Peterson, who gives Sherman a tough time.

No information has been provided on what roles Kemper (who appeared in Bridesmaids) and character veteran Tobolowsky will be filling.

The film has apparently been so well received by DreamWorks – which previously cast Colbert as the American President in Monsters Vs Aliens – that it has switched the release dates of Peabody with Me & My Shadow, which is now moving to 2014. Mr Peabody & Sherman will appear in the US on November 8 next year, and though there’s no UK date set yet, we're guessing it will follow soon after.
