Among the crowd of animation-to-live-action conversions Disney has been developing (and, in some cases, finishing to successful box office), plans were announced back in 2015 for a revisionist take on the Prince Charming character. We haven't heard much about it since then, but now The Perks Of Being A Wallflower's Stephen Chbosky has been hired to write and direct the film.
Well, for now at least he's simply on script duty, but if/when he finds a take that he and the studio agree on, he'll also handle directorial chores. Matt Fogel wrote the original screenplay, which Disney snapped up, which takes a new look at the character through the eyes of his brother, who never quite lived up to the family name. It's a concept that has been explored by US TV drama Once Upon A Time and will be given the big screen treatment here.
Chbosky already has bona fides in the Disney canon, as he was one of the writers on this year's successful new version of Beauty And The Beast. His most recent movie is Wonder, due in UK cinemas on 1 December.
