Lin-Manuel Miranda is, to put it mildly, a bit of a fan of US sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He recently got the chance to appear on the show and is extending his fandom a step further, adding Stephanie Beatriz – one of series' stars, who plays Rosa Diaz – to the cast, alongside film and Broadway veteran Daphne Rubin-Vega and Orange Is The New Black's Dascha Polanco to the screen adaptation of his musical In The Heights.

And Beatriz is not the only Nine-Nine-adjacent actor to join the cast, as Olga Merediz, who occasionally pops up as Rosa's mother on the show, has been cast in one of the key roles. She'll be Abuela Claudia, the matriarch of the Washington Heights neighbourhood whose financial luck helps other characters in the story.

Beatriz and Rubin-Vega will play Daniela and Carla, the owner and fellow employee of Vanessa (Melissa Barrera), the latter being the love interest of main character Usnavi (Anthony Ramos). Polanco's Cuca is a new character dreamed up by Miranda, screenwriter Marc Klein and musical book writer Quiara Alegría Hudes.

Jon M. Chu is in the director's chair for this one, which should be in cinemas next summer.
