Star Wars Rebels Introduces New Astromech Droid

In the Star Wars universe, Astromech droids come and Astromech droids go, but we all know who rules the roost and holds a special place in fans hearts: R2-D2. Now it looks like he may have some competition in the shape of C1-10P, or Chopper, the new character introduced in upcoming ‘toon Star Wars Rebels.

Described by series producer Dave Filoni as a cranky, grumpy sort built from scavenged spare parts, Chopper helps around the Starship Ghost. Well, we say helps… Apparently he prefers to do things his own damn way. But he gets the job done and is incredibly loyal. Though he is also compared to a cat, so take that with a grain of salt.

Star Wars Rebels is the a cartoon series set 14 years after Revenge Of The Sith and four years before the events of Star War****s. The main characters are a group of young rebels trying to evade Imperial capture by nasty villain The Inquisitor. Unlike the anthology feel of Clone Wars, Rebels will focus on the core characters through one story.

Lest Chopper actually become popular and end up a little too big for his bolts, he’d best be warned that the reason R5-D4 is so beaten up in Star Wars is that R2 got to him behind the scenes and “had a word” in the form of several thousand volts and some conveniently dropped scenery. Better luck to the newcomer, eh?
