Despite Disney and Lucasfilm largely having the deflector shields up when it comes to confirmed information about new Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian, news is beginning to sneak out. The latest comes via The Hollywood Reporter, which brings word that Nick Nolte has been recruited for the show.

Jon Favreau has been masterminding this one, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, in a place far from the authority of the New Republic.

Nothing is yet known what Nolte will be doing in the series, but he joins a cast that already includes Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano, and with The Mandalorian already in production. Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow and Rick Famuyiwa are all directing episodes of the show, aiming to arrive on Disney's streaming service next year.

Nolte's also back on our screens next year in Angel Has Fallen, due out on 23 August.

In related Star Wars spin-off news, The Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor has landed someone to run the show. Stephen Schiff, who previously worked on US spy drama The Americans is the new man in charge, taking the baton from Zootropolis and Moana writer Jared Bush, who came up with the idea and wrote the pilot and show's "bible," which dictates ideas going forward. Schiff will oversee the writers and guide the show to Disney+, with shooting scheduled for next year.
