Star Wars: New Trailer For The High Republic Book Series

Star Wars: The High Republic

Early last year, Disney and Lucasfilm revealed a new era in Star Wars storytelling, announcing 'The High Republic', which will chronicle an era in that Galaxy Far, Far Away that is an even Longer Time Ago. A new trailer for the book and comics series is now online.

Set roughly 200 years before The Phantom Menace, the series will chronicle a "golden age" of Jedi Knights, at the height of their powers and tackling challenges such as crime and disorder. As well as a core set of heroes, the High Republic will introduce new villains – including ‘The Nihil’ (presumably they believe in, well, nothing) who are pitched as “space Vikings”, pillaging formerly peaceful places in the galaxy. And it all kicks off with an event called ‘The Great Disaster’ – the exact nature of which remains under wraps, but promises portentous things to come. And while this all takes place much more ‘recently’ than the Old Republic era (which was 4,000 years before the Skywalker Saga), don’t expect the High Republic to head into Prequel Trilogy territory.

Lucasfilm hasn't yet said anything about TV series or movies set during this time (though now we know that Leslye Headland's Disney+ show The Acolyte will be set in the waning days of that period), but you have to figure that if the books and comics are a hit that those will follow.
