"Star Wars, but, y'know... for kids" sounds like a description that could be applied to any of the animated series that have spun off from that Galaxy far, far away. And depending on their age and temperament, it frankly applies to the movies, too. Still. Disney, mindful of shorter attention spans and response to bright, anime-style imagery, is looking to grab younger brains at an earlier level, launching a new series of animated shorts called Star Wars Galaxy Of Adventures.
It's all part of a new site called Star Wars Kids, which is initially launching this Friday with six short animated offerings that remix dialogue, music and sound effects from the established films along with new visuals. It's all part of an effort that will expand further next year into other mediums and ideas, squarely targeting younglings who might not be ready for the movies. Got to get those fans early, people...
"With Galaxy Of Adventures, we wanted to craft something that allowed parents to help their kids take their first step into a much larger world whether they were ready to show their kids the films or wanted to find new ways to explore the content,” James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s vice president for franchise content and strategy, tells the official Star Wars site, and you can find more from him here. The next main offering, of course, will be Episode IX, due out on 19 December next year, and our handy feature detailing Everything You Need To Know is here.
