The nominations have been received and tallied up, and the shortlist is in for the Empire Awards 2018 - the awards show voted for by you, our readers.

Slicing through the competition at lightspeed is Star Wars: The Last Jedi, leading the way with a total of nine nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. Hot on its heels and decked in fluorescent warpaint is Thor: Ragnarok with eight nominations, including Best Film and a Best Director nod for Taika Waititi.

Elsewhere, Get Out is a hypnotic viewer favourite, bagging five nods in total, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Newcomer for Daniel Kaluuya. Wonder Woman is fighting the good fight in the Best Film, Director, Actress and Sci-Fi/Fantasy categories.

Call Me By Your Name has proved a real peach, rounding out the Best Film nominations, and getting notices for Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet in Best Actor and Best Male Newcomer, respectively. It’s also up for Soundtrack and Screenplay.

With the Empire Awards reflecting all genres and the tastes of the cinema-going public, the likes of It, John Wick: Chapter 2, Logan, The Big Sick, and — of course — Paddington 2 are all in the mix too.

As for the small screen, Big Little Lies leads the way with four nominations, with The Handmaid’s Tale, Twin Peaks, The Crown, Stranger Things 2, Star Trek: Discovery and Legion also featuring.
