Last week, we got a deluge of upcoming Star Wars info courtesy of Disney’s Investor’s Day event – with shows like Lando, Ahsoka, and Rangers Of The New Republic to look forward to, as well as Patty Jenkins’ upcoming movie Rogue Squadron. But as it turned out, the updated Star Wars slate wasn’t quite complete. For years, there’s been talk of a Boba Fett spin-off, with Josh Trank once tapped up to direct a film about the Mando-armoured bounty hunter. And since The Mandalorian Season 2 officially brought the character back into the fray, word has been swirling once again of him getting his own vehicle (and we don’t mean Slave I).
Mild spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 2 finale follow.
As confirmed in the final episode of Mando’s second season, Boba Fett will indeed be back, in a set of adventures due to arrive in 2021, under the title The Book Of Boba Fett.
More major spoiler for The Mandalorian Season 2 finale follow.
Still here? Sure you want to read on? OK, well the news was confirmed following a post-credits sting that brought none other than Bib Fortuna back to the Star Wars universe. And, er, very quickly dispatched him. The scene saw Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand striding back into the palace that was once Jabba’s, dispatching all of the roguish figures in there – including Fortuna – and freeing the Twi’lek dancers. (Thank goodness Max Rebo wasn’t playing that night, or he’d be toast too.) Boba sits on the palace throne, and BAM – in comes that title card.
Of course, the big question is: is The Book Of Boba Fett a separate show? Or is it perhaps where The Mandalorian itself goes next? The Season 2 finale unexpectedly seemed to wrap up much of the show’s current storylines. Is it re-angling for a fresh narrative under the banner of The Mandalorian for Season 3, this time following Fett? Or will Pedro Pascal return as Din Djarin in Mando, with The Book Of Boba Fett running as a separate series? Expect debate on that one to rage for a while – and stay tuned for any subsequent clarification from the team at LucasFilm.
