Set phasers to FUN! After bagging a long overdue Oscar for her turn(s) as Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle Yeoh is swapping the multiverse to play her Star Trek: Discovery mirror universe character Emperor Philippa Georgiou once again in Olatunde Osunsanmi's Paramount+ original movie Star Trek: Section 31. Front-loaded with a playful warning for "misfit content", the first trailer for the movie — which is set to follow Yeoh's villainous warlord as she joins a black ops division of Starfleet — promises to bring a distinctly different vibe to the almost seventy-year-old sci-fi franchise. Check it out:

We told you the vibe was different! From the Beyoncé 'Formation' needledrop, to Yeoh's Georgiou being called a "bad bitch" by a Starfleet officer, to the Emperor's snazzy-looking wardrobe and acrobatic displays of kickassery, it looks like the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star is having a whale of a time in this distinctly contemporary take on the Star Trek universe. And it's not just cartwheel kicks and amber-eyed Sam Richardson-featuring motley crews we're getting with Section 31 either by the looks of it. The logline for the movie hints that the plot will see Yeoh's Georgiou "protecting the United Federation of Planets" whilst also facing "the sins of her past," and in this teaser we see newcomer Miku Martineau portraying a younger Philippa in claret-strewn flashbacks, suggesting we will learn more about how the mirror universe's warlord was forged here. It's all very intriguing and very enigmatic at this point.

Also boldly going alongside Yeoh, Richardson, and Martineau for this one, written by Disco alum Craig Sweeny, are Omari Hardwick (Army Of The Dead), Kacey Rohl (Wayward Pines), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Eastenders), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). We'll find out exactly what Star Trek: Section 31 has in store for us when the movie hits Paramount+ sometime next year.
