If you were thinking that the first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Picard would feature huge galactic vistas and warp speeding space ships, you might want to set phasers to "wait". The initial footage from the show set to bring Patrick Stewart's iconic Captain (now Admiral) back to our screens is heavy on the vineyards.

That's not a huge shock if you know the character – his family famously raises vines and he's seen tending them at an older age in Star Trek: The Next Generation finale All Good Things. The voice-over is that of questioning, wondering why Picard, who famously eschewed a personal life (mostly) and preferred to explore the stars, would leave Starfleet and return to his roots and his, er, roots.

There are nods to his having lead a big rescue armada and something after that prompting his decision to ditch the uniform.

The series promises a psychological exploration of Jean-Luc, and the cast also includes Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway.

Star Trek: Picard will be out later in the year via CBS All Access in the States and on Amazon Prime Video over here. Should you have issues playing the trailer outside the US, find a non-geolocked version below.
