Well, that was... unsurprising, to say the least. After months of development and casting announcements about the new Star Trek show built around the continuing missions of Patrick Stewart's iconic character Jean-Luc Picard, US streaming service CBS All Access used parent company CBS' big upfront presentation to announce that the Amazon Prime show will be called Star Trek: Picard.

Yes, in news that will delight Empire's own James Dyer (and horrify his Pilot TV podcast co-hosts Terri White and Boyd Hilton because they now know that Picard chatter is imminent), the show finally has an official, entirely-guessable title.

Looking to chronicle a later chapter of Picard's life (roughly 20 years after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation), the actual story cooked up by executive producer Alex Kurtzman and his fellow writers (Akiva Goldsman, Heather Kadin and Michael Chabon among them) is being kept under wraps. The cast around Stewart includes Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd. Hanelle Culpepper, who has worked on Star Trek: Discovery, will direct the first two episodes while Stewart's old TNG cast mate Jonathan Frakes will also call the shots during the first run.

The series doesn't have a premiere date just yet, but All Access is looking to have it on screens by the end of the year, with Amazon Prime nabbing the right to show it in the UK. Our only quibble with the logo is the use of the original Trek's font – given his background, doesn't Picard deserve the TNG font? We... Nope, starting to sound too much like James D. We'll stop.
