Though it has been shooting for a while and still doesn't have a confirmed launch date, the new televisual adventures of the long-running Star Trek franchise, Discovery, is still adding cast members. The latest to join the team include Penny Dreadful's Shazad Latif, BSG's Rekha Sharma and Suits' Damon Runyan.
Set a decade or so before the adventures of Kirk and co., the show will chronicle several crews, including those of the titular USS Discovery (with the focus on Sonequa Martin-Green's Michael Burnham, who serves on the ship under Jason Isaacs' Captain Lorca, a fellow Starfleet vessel, the Shenzhou captained by Michelle Yeoh and various Klingons and other aliens.
The cast also features the likes of Rainn Wilson as troublemaker Harry Mudd, James Frain as Sarek (father to Spock) and Doug Jones as alien Starfleet crew member Lt. Saru.
As for the newcomers, Latif will be Lieutenant Tyler, a fellow Starfleet officer, Sharma as Commander Landry, in charge of security aboard Discovery. Runyan is playing a Klingon called Ujilli, with Kenneth Mitchell as a Kol and Clare McConnell as Dennas, both Klingons.
Following a series of delays and the departure of former showrunner Bryan Fuller, the series should kick off on US network CBS before switching to its CBS All Access app later this year, and will be available in the UK on Netflix.
