Things are reportedly changing both in front of and behind the camera for the third outing of the rebooted Star Trek cinematic universe. With Roberto Orci seemingly locked in place as director, Trekmovie’s sources have heard that he’s hired respected cinematographer Claudio Miranda to work on the new film, with the pair planning to shoot digitally.
That’s a marked change from both the 2009 film and last year’s Into Darkness, which were both shot on film thanks to J.J. Abrams’ preference for the old ways. Still, Miranda is a smart choice for anyone looking to get the best out of digital photography: he won the cinematography Oscar for Life Of Pi and worked on the equally gorgeous likes of** Tron Legacy** and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
It’s not surprising that Orci would want to bring in fresh faces for his assumption of the director's chair, but it’s also down to Abrams taking many of his regular collaborators with him to work on Star Wars: Episode VII.
Another change for this film is the shooting locations. While Abrams for the most part stayed in California, Orci is looking to shoot the majority of the film in Vancouver, with some additional work in Seoul, South Korea. Production is reportedly set to gear up in February ready for a 2016 release date…
