Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy remain one of Hollywood’s greatest ever double acts, still bringing joy to audiences with their iconic slapstick masterpieces – certainly a tough act to follow for Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly to follow. The duo are stepping into the shows of Laurel and Hardy for new biopic Stan & Ollie, charting the comedy legends in their later years through their disagreements, ill health, and farewell live tour. The first trailer for the film is in, and you can watch it right here.

Coogan and Reilly seem perfectly cast here, each absolutely looking the part – though it looks like the film will present a considerable amount of drama between its beloved central duo, as well as the comic genius they were known for. They’re joined by the likes of Shirley Henderson as Hardy’s wife Lucille, Nina Arianda as Laurel’s wife Ida, Danny Huston, and Rufus Jones. The filmed is directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth), from a screenplay by Philomena writer Jeff Pope.

Stan & Ollie will receive its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival 2018, closing out the LFF on 21 October. The film will get a wider release on 11 January next year – potentially putting in the spotlight for Oscar and BAFTA consideration.
