Right from the moment the first image of Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly in character as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy arrived, it was immediately clear that the pair were perfect casting for Stan & Ollie. The new film from Filth director Jon S. Baird follows the beloved comedy duo in their later years, their glory days behind them, as they embark on a live tour of the UK in 1953 – exploring their unique relationship, that unbeatable chemistry, and their enduring legacy. We’ve got an exclusive featurette here delving into the film’s setting, filmmaking, and spot-on casting.
“We were very lucky, because we got our number one choices in both roles,” Baird says of the central duo. “Steve was the first person and only person I met about it, and John C. Reilly the same.”
Lucky audiences got an early look at the film at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this year, where it received its world premiere, and the rest of us will get to see it when it hits UK cinemas on 11 January 2019.
