Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard in Allied

If the first teaser for Robert ZemeckisAllied kept the pin firmly in the grenade, this new action-heavy trailer explodes a fair bit of the mystery around the Forrest Gump man’s new wartime thriller. Take a look below.

The addition of what looks like final act footage unveils the painful knot at the heart of a romance between intel office Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) and French resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Marion Cotillard): she might be a Nazi spy herself. And he may be forced by his British superiors to execute an Arnie-style divorce using a service pistol.

There’s a lot going on here, with the ticking clock device, Hitchcockian sexual subterfuge and liberal references to the great Casablanca all stewing away in a big pot. Can Zemeckis get the recipe right? On this evidence, he and screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Locke) have crafted an unashamedly old-fashioned thriller draped in plenty of modern-day Hollywood glamour.

With Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan, Simon McBurney and Matthew Goode also appearing, Allied will be out in the UK on 25 November.
