The film, written and directed by Frank Miller, is based on Will Eisner's stories of a mysterious masked crime fighter at war with the equally mysterious villain The Octopus. The film marks Frank Miller's first outing as solo director, after co-directing Sin City, based on his own comic book, with Robert Rodriguez.
