Indiana Jones

Somebody get Steven Spielberg an extra pair of hands — the legendary director is spinning a significant number of plates right now, with major projects hanging in the balance.

Last week news emerged that Spielberg is casting a remake of West Side Story, with a new adapted script by Tony Kushner. But it seems that’s not going to be his next job after delivering The Post and booting up Ready Player One. The director is going to film the next Indiana Jones film first, before the Sharks and Jets start clicking their fingers.

The whip-cracking archaeologist is returning for a fifth (was there even a fourth?) adventure with a proposed 2020 release date. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Spielberg will shoot Indy’s return before he gets rolling on West Side Story, with Harrison Ford donning the fedora for filming next year. Spielberg’s other project, The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, looks to be taking a backseat for now.

Indiana Jones 5 will be the first Indy adventure not to feature George Lucas on story duties. The rights are now owned by Disney in the same deal that saw the studio acquire Star Wars, with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall producing.
