Spider-Man 3’s cast continues to expand. And it’s exciting news.
Bryce Dallas Howard – best known for M Night Shymalan’s The Village – has been cast as Gwen Stacy. A classic and much beloved character from the Spidey comics, Gwen is an on-again-off-again love interest for Peter Parker. But hers is also a tragic story – she’s killed during an encounter with the Green Goblin.
Given Sam Raimi’s tinkering with the Spider-Man mythos (Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane is threatened with the very same fate that befalls Gwen in the first film), it’s not known exactly what role she’ll play in the third film. But chances are we can expect some romantic tension between Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson.
With Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace already signed to play the villains, Sam Raimi is once again building a great cast for his next Spider-venture, which is planned for release in May 2007.
