Puss In Boots

Though it was a big success at the box office (and Oscar-nominated) back in 2011, the usually franchise-hungry DreamWorks Animation hasn't exactly rushed to make a sequel to Shrek 2 spin-off Puss In Boots. We've heard talk of it for years, though, and now it's taken a big step forward as recent Oscar winner Bob Persichetti is on to direct.

Persichetti, who worked as head of story and voiced the "ooooh! cat" for the original, has just scored the trophy for his work on the excellent Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. He's headed back to DWA to oversee the new film, which is still largely a mystery.

DreamWorks kept the Boots flame alive with the TV series, which featured a different voice cast. The new movie is likely to bring at least Antonio Banderas back, and potentially Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws. There's no release date set for the film, but with luck, Persichetti's hiring means it'll actually now be made. And while we'd be sorry to see him not work on a Spider-Verse sequel or spin-off, that movie also features Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman in its directorial team, so it'll remain in solid hands.
