It's been a long, long wait for anything substantial from Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third film solo film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker and directed by Jon Watts. But that wait is finally over and the teaser trailer for the movie has landed. Check it out...

No Way Home finds Peter dealing with the fallout of Far From Home, in which his secret identity was leaked by JK Simons' J. Jonah Jameson, and he was framed for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Agonized by the effect on his life – particularly girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and his family – Peter Seeks out Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to ask for help. Despite a warning from Wong (Benedict Wong), Strange agrees to cast a powerful spell wiping any knowledge of Peter's alter ego from the world's population. Of course, Peter's nervousness at that concept causes the spell to misfire, cracking open the multiverse on Earth, and leading to some Doctor Strange-style twisty visuals. Oh, and some familiar faces (well, a face, some tentacles and a Pumpkin bomb) from the Sam Raimi Spider-movies and potentially more...

This is certainly moodier and darker than the wilder tones of the last two Spidey outings (Doctor Strange gets more of the funny stuff here), but with luck No Way Home will show the same spirit.

Sony debuted the trailer during its presentation at this year's CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, probably hoping to secure the news cycle. But, like so much of Peter Parker's life, that didn't quite go to plan, as the trailer leaked in grainy, unfinished form the day before (we can only image Kevin Feige sending killer drones to the leakers, and Holland breathing a sigh of relief that for once it wasn't him).

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be out on 17 December.
