At this point, we're pretty certain that Marvel is not going to give out any sensitive information to Tom Holland, lest it somehow gets out. But playing on that idea makes for a good marketing idea, so welcome to the era of Spider-Man stars releasing what are surely fake titles from the third stand-alone Sony/Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, alongside real images.
Holland's example riffs on E.T. (which Peter Parker would probably describe as a "really old movie"), while Jacob Batalon's sounds more like a thriller from the 1990s. Zendaya then chimed in with her version, which makes us wonder whether Juno's Jason Reitman has taken over directing. We'll update this as more "titles" pop up. But let's be honest here... we all know who was really behind it, all along.
Much of the details for the new film are naturally still wrapped in Doctor Strange's cloak – though we do know that Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme will be showing up, as will Jamie Foxx's Electro and Alfred Molina's Otto Octavius. And the rumours continue to linger that both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire could at least cameo as the MCU continues to explore the notion of an MCM – a Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. The new additions (whether or not they end up coming true) will join returning stars Batalon, Zendaya, Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei. Jon Watts is directing, and the film is scheduled for a 17 December release.
