Don't tell J. Jonah Jameson, but we've got some fresh Spider-Man news hot off the press for you this fine (well, somewhat blustery) Tuesday morning. Yes, almost three years since Spider-Man: No Way Homesaw Tom Holland's wall crawler team up with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire for all sorts of multiversal madness, we're finally getting an update on our Friendly Neighbourhood's next MCU outing. According to THR's reporting, Destin Daniel Cretton — whose Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings remains a highlight of Marvel Studios' post-Endgame output — is in talks to direct Spider-Man 4.

Having vacated the directorial hotseat on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (now Avengers: Doomsday) last year amid all the legal and creative troubles facing that project, Cretton has most recently been hard at work on upcoming Marvel Disney+ series Wonder Man with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. That the filmmaker has been courted to helm Marvel and Sony's web-slinging fourquel then represents a vote of confidence in Wonder Man from Kevin Feige and co, who've already snapped up Spidey scriptwriting alum Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers to scribe the franchise's fourth instalment. And whilst we've no word at this point on what the plot of Spider-Man 4 (presumably soon to be given a shiny new Home related title) will be, Deadline are reporting that Tom Holland and Zendaya — despite the latter's MJ having her memory wiped at the end of No Way Home — are both in talks to return for the wall crawler's latest adventure.

As well as now having a new Spider-Man movie in his directorial pipeline, the increasingly busy Cretton still remains attached to make a sequel to Shang-Chi somewhere along the line for Marvel Studios, and is still looking to bring global anime phenomenon Naruto to live-action life sometime soon, too. But for now, with reports indicating that Spider-Man 4 is zipping its way towards an early 2025 shoot, it looks like Cretton has been well and truly bitten by the Spidey bug and will be caught in Peter Parker's web of intrigue for the foreseeable. And that suits us just fine — Shang-Chi was thwipping great!
