Their heyday might be long past, but the Spice Girls continue to be a part of pop culture between tours and other jobs. They've already had one film based on them – 1997's Spice World – so depending on your feelings towards that, prepare to be thrilled or terrified that an animated film featuring them is in production at Paramount's 'toon department.
Little is known about the story at this point, but all five members of the group (that would be Mel "Scary" Brown, Geri "Ginger" Halliwell, Victoria "Posh" Beckham, Emma "Baby" Bunton and Melanie "Sporty" Chisholm) are on board to lend their voices, with Simon Fuller as producer and Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith on script duty. The soundtrack will consist of some classic tracks and new material, with the idea for the movie apparently (according to Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria) coming from the five themselves.
The film is in development with no fixed release date yet, and the studio has a wealth of other movies to schedule before it (a new SpongeBob Squarepants CGI effort and an intriguing one about sea crab tourists clashing with land crab townies in Grease-inspired musical Jersey Crabs) for next year.
