Life as a movie star is fraught with danger it seems from the looks of two news stories out of Hollywood today. The first concerns a classic set mishap which almost cost Tom Cruise his life. According to the Sun, the near-fatal incident happened on the set of Cruise's upcoming movie The Last Samurai. Cruise's co-star Hiroyuki Sanada was supposed to swing his sword at Tom's head with the mechanical horse Tom was sitting on programmed to duck down at the last minute. However last minute mechanical failure meant that the horse didn't duck at the right time and Hiroyuki was forced to stop mid-swing. 'I swung my sword at Tom's neck to behead him,' Hiroyuki tells the paper, 'and the horse didn't work. I stopped the blade just one inch from his neck.' If that isn't enough to make you rethink your plans for movie stardom, then maybe this cautionary tale from Las Vegas will change your mind. Poor old Christian Slater had his wife taken into custody yesterday after she apparently glassed him in a fight. Police were called to the couple's hotel room in the early hours of the morning to find the film star covered in blood. Slater fingered his wife for the deed, so she spent the night in jail where she was charged with domestic battery. It's a tough business, showbusiness.
