We hope Andrew Garfield didn’t have too many movies planned for the next five years or so, because Sony wants to keep him in the Spidey suit for a while yet. Displaying the confidence of a studio that feels love for its franchise, the company has just announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will arrive on June 10, 2016 and the fourth on May 4, 2018.
Even though the second film – due to touch down here next year – isn’t finished and the reaction to the first wasn’t quite as positive as all involved likely hoped, nothing will stop the superhero momentum.
“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years,” said Sony marketing boss Jeff Blake in a statement. It’s also a sign of the studio wanting to wrangle those dates before anyone else can lock them down.
While we don’t yet know who will appear in the new movies, or what their stories will be, we do at least know that they’re in development.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which features director Marc Webb back behind the camera and Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Paul Giamatti, Dan DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Marton Csokas, Felicity Jones, B.J. Novak, Colm Feore and Chris Cooper in front of it, arrives in the UK on April 18, 2014. It’ll be out in the US on May 2. Given that we’re getting this one early, expect the third and fourth films to premiere here in advance of the States too.
