The Sons Of Anarchy spin-off reaches pilot stage

Sons Of Anarchy - Mayans

Though Sons Of Anarchy rode off into the sunset in 2014, creator Kurt Sutter isn't completely done with the world of bikers, criminals and family tension. He announced a spin-off last year and now the new series has received a pilot order from US network FX.

You might think that Sutter would be too busy running post-Sons series The Bastard Executioner to work on another show, but A) we have bad news about Executioner, which met its own end last year after 10 episodes and B) he'd already decided to have Elgin James run the series with Sutter overseeing things as executive producer. "I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice," Sutter told The Hollywood Reporter last year when he first revealed the spin-off's existence.

The Mayans, usually led by Emilio Rivera’s Marcus Alvarez were a rival bike chapter that eventually came to an uneasy alliance with SAMCRO (the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original). As for the new show, it takes place after the (spoiler alert if you haven't caught up on Sons!) death of Charlie Hunnam's Jax Teller, and would focus on EZ Reyes, a Mayan MC charter prospect on the border between California and Mexico, who struggles with his burning desire for vengeance against a cartel and his need for respect from the women in his life. The pilot should start shooting in March.
