Break out the fur thong and grab your broadsword! Because Red Sonja’s back.

Yes, the giant remake robot has cast its metal eye towards 1985’s, er, “classic” swordplay film, which starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger (playing Someone Really Like Conan But Not Named Conan For Rights issues). The MGM movie bombed on release.

But now Sonja, who got her start in the Conan comics in 1973 before getting her own title, is getting a second shot at box office glory. “

Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films have picked up the rights and plonked down $25 million to make the new version. “The first movie was not a good one - all the more reason to remake it. It is a great character and a great brand," Joe Gatta, head of Millennium Films told Variety.

There’s no script or director yet, but surely Kristanna Loken isn’t outside the realms of possibility to star. That sound you hear is the producers trying to stop Uwe Boll getting involved.
