She's used to flying around the galaxy interacting with aliens, so we predict that Sonequa Martin-Green will have little trouble easing into her next film gig. Unless, of course, she's not a fan of LeBron James. The Star Trek: Discovery lead is making a deal to join the cast of Space Jam 2.
Terence Nance is preparing to direct the film this summer (squeezing production into James' downtime from the NBA), but the plot is a mystery. Beyond, as we'd predict, the idea of James teaming up with a load of the Looney Tunes regulars (led by Bugs Bunny) to take on some new extraterrestrial threat. Or perhaps it'll call back to the 1996 original.
Deadline has heard that Martin-Green will play James' wife in the film, which is scheduled for a 16 July, 2021 release, that date building in the time needed to complete all the animated elements. Ryan Coogler – Black Panther's co-writer and director is one of the producers here.
In addition to her continuing mission duties on Discovery, Martin-Green has also worked on indie drama The Outside Story.
