Bonuses all round for the Star Trek Beyond poster designers because they’re knocking it out of the park at the moment. After the most recent character posters, and one in which the Enterprise swooshes across the frame like an intergalactic Jackson Pollock (below), comes a starkly cool new one-sheet for Sofia Boutella’s Jaylah.
The Kingsman villain’s character is an all-action extra-terrestial who, suggests director Justin Lin, will be taking the battle to Idris Elba’s big bad, Krall. "I put Sofia through hell in her intro fight," Lin explains of her first scene, "and we had to go take after take after take. It was four days of really pushing it. She was so pumped up and she just went for it.”
Judging by early footage, she’ll also be showing approximately zero respect for the protocols and hierarchies of the Federation. No-one sits in Kirk’s chair.
Star Trek Beyond finds Kirk (Chris Pine), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (co-writer Simon Pegg), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and co. in the middle of their five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and hair-rising adventure. Despite the excitement and adventure of deep space exploration, the routine of charting the unknown has started to weigh on the captain, who is beginning to question his choices.
But he'll be confronted with more than existential malaise when a brand new race, led by the driven Krall seriously attacks the ship, leaving the crew separated, stranded and facing their biggest challenge yet.
Star Trek Beyond lands in the UK and US on July 22. Empire's Everything Need To Know About Star Trek Beyond guide will fill in any blanks.
