Though Zack Snyder is still planning to make a sequel to Army Of The Dead for Netflix (and handed over directing duties on prequel Army Of Thieves to Matthias Schweighöfer), we knew he was headed to space for his next film with the streaming service. The director has locked down Sofia Boutella for Rebel Moon.
The story, written by Snyder and 300's Kurt Johnstad (and turned into script form by the director alongside Dead's Shay Hatten) starts when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand. Looks like Boutella will play the young woman.
It will surprise no one to learn that this is a concept Snyder cooked up to pitch to Lucasfilm (pre-Disney buyout) and has since been retooled into an original movie. Given the casting push, it looks like Snyder will start shooting early next year.
