With several re-imagined fairy tales already under its belt, Disney is looking to another side character to expand the live-action roster. The company has Evan Daugherty at work on a script about Snow White's lesser-known sister, Rose Red.

While she appears in a tale by the Brothers Grimm and hasn't been adapted as much for other media as Snow (though she's used to great effect in Bill Willingham's excellent Fables comic books), Daugherty and the Mouse House have a plan to use her in a story that moves her closer to her sister's narrative. Originated as a script by Justin Merz that was intended to stand alone, Daugherty came on board with an idea to tie it into Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. It'll be set as Snow is sent into the Sleeping Death curse by the infamous poison arrow and sees her sis heading out on a quest with Grumpy to find a way to break it. One, we imagine that may or may not include the original solution: true love's kiss from Prince Charming.

Tripp Vinson, who has a couple of other revisionist fairy tales set up at Disney, is onboard to produce this one and it'll now head into the development pool. Daugherty has form with Snow's world: he wrote Snow White And The Huntsman for Universal back in 2012, though he didn't return the script this year's follow-up The Huntsman: Winter's War.
