It may have lost out on the Booker award this week but Zadie Smith has landed the bigger prize of a movie deal. While her acclaimed debut White Teeth made it to a TV series, her third novel On Beauty is set to make it to the big screen.

A homage to E.M Forster — Only Connect in particular — On Beauty follows the intermingling lives of two rival scholars and their families at an East Coast university.

FilmFour have snapped up the rights with Scott Rudin and Allison Owen producing at a budget estimated at $20 million.
