Jude Law and Michael Caine finally getting to make their Sleuth remake? Surely it’s not possible! This is one that’s been wafting around rumour central for years, but now it’s actually happening.
After waiting ages for their schedules to coincide and deals to be struck, Kenneth Branagh is the man sliding into the director’s chair for the remake of the film based on Anthony Shaffer’s play.
The plot finds a smart thriller writer distraught at the idea his wife is having an affair with her hairdresser. Using his creative mind, he hatches an elaborate revenge plan. In the 1972 Sleuth, Caine played the hairdresser. This time, he’s the writer, and Law’s taking the younger man’s part.
They’ll clearly be hoping for the same level of praise the first film version grabbed – both Caine and co-star Laurence Olivier were Oscar-nominated.
With cash fronted by Castle Rock, Branagh will pick up the megaphone at Twickenham Studios this January.
