Skipping To Hit The Big Screen

Can jump ropes jump start rhythm flicks?

With **Dance Flick **and the **Fame **remake effectively hammering the last nails in the dance movie's coffin (we’re watching you, Footloose remake – don’t be rubbish), producers are heading back to youth sports. With Drew Barrymore’s roller derby flick Whip It getting great reviews across the pond, and everything from American football to, erm, synchronised swimming chalking up the silver-screen treatment this decade, it's now the turn of skipping in Jump Around.

Not just any old skipping mind you – double-dutch jump-roping (we think it’s a slightly more refined version of "Bumper Car Bumper Car"), which officially became an officially-recognised school sport in New York this year. Duane Adler, who co-wrote hit dance flicks **Step Up **and Save The Last Dance is on the books to rewrite and direct Jump Around, a screenplay based on that sport, with **What Women Want **producer Matt Williams on board too.
