Even with the Venom sequel on the way and Morbius headed to screens, Sony has a been taking things a little more slowly in building out its Spider-Man cinematic universe. The studio is adding another, with director SJ Clarkson on board to develop an unknown, female-focused property in the Spider-canon.

What film Clarkson is on to make is being kept a secret for now; Variety's report mentions word from insiders that it could be the Madame Web movie that Sony was reported as planning back in September last year.

This wouldn't be the first female focused that Sony has looked to develop – a film about Silver Sable and Black Cat has been in the works for a couple of years without much forward movement.

Clarkson is best known as a director of shows such as Jessica Jones, Banshee and Succession. She was attached to make the new Star Trek film, but that is stuck in a development gravity well after a series of setbacks.
