John Singleton is switching his attention from the lives of African-Americans to that of Latinos. He’s producing Illegal Tender, with Empire helmer Franc Reyes planning to direct his own script.

Tender revolves around a young Latino man on the run with his mother after thugs slay his father. The movie has a $3 million dollar budget and a shoot planned to start on 9 May in Puerto Rico.

War Of The Worlds' Rick Gonzalez, Blood Work’s Wanda De Jesus and The Terminal’s Zoe Saldana are attached to star alongside Reggaeton icon Tego Calderon. Reggaeton will also make up the majority of the soundtrack’s sounds.
