Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and rising Brit star Matthew Goode have joined the cast of A Single Man, which will mark the directorial debut of Tom Ford.
Yes, that Tom Ford – the fashion designer and all-round style guru who was Gucci's creative director for a decade. He's also a noted photographer and has clearly decided to transfer those skills to the movies. One thing you can't deny – this sucker will look good.
The movie, co-written by Ford along with David Scearce, is adapted from Christopher Isherwood's classic 1964 novel, a timeless meditation on love, loss and loneliness.
That followed a British college professor during the course of a single day. Ford appears to have expanded the scope of the material, but he's retained the focus on the professor (Firth), who has just lost his same-sex partner of sixteen years.
No word yet on the roles that Goode (soon to be seen as Ozymandias in Watchmen) and Moore will play.
Filming on the movie – which has Chris Weitz on board as producer – will begin next week in November. If all goes well, expect this one to be bothering Oscar come 2010 – and, for the enduring and excellent Firth, it may be about damn time.
