Ian Kenny

Regular readers will know our avowed love for last year's musical treat Sing Street, and the idea of people from the film going on to great new jobs pleases us. There has been an exciting development for Ian Kenny, who played Barry: he's joining the cast of the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars spin-off film.

With Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton, Michael Kenneth Williams and Joonas Suotamo already aboard, the movie will explore the younger days of the charming smuggler, including – as confirmed recently by Disney boss Robert Iger – how he acquires the Millennium Falcon and meets Chewbacca for the first time. And, even more intriguingly, how he got his name... So Han Solo is a nickname? One he took for himself? We're not 100% sure we need to have everything explained, but in Phil Lord and Chris Miller (directing this one) we trust.

With a script by Jon and Lawrence Kasdan, the film is shooting now and will be out on 25 May next year.
