The march of Robert Rodriguez films from the big screen to the small is apparently not over yet. We’ve already brought word of the El Mariachi series underway (albeit without the director’s involvement) and Rodriguez himself is gearing up a show based on **From Dusk Till Dawn. If The Weinstein Company has its way, a series drawn from the Sin City universe could be next.
Though the New York Times report – which is more generally about the company’s plans to exploit its back catalogue – offers few details, it does include the key information that Bob Weinstein is looking to develop a Sin City show with Rodriguez and co-director / City mastermind Frank Miller involved.
Right now, the writer-directors are concentrating on Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, which follows up the 2005 film with another batch of stories set in Miller’s neo-noir metropolis, featuring Josh Brolin’s younger version of Dwight tangled up in a tale about a femme fatale (Eva Green) and the likes of Marv (Mickey Rourke), Hartigan (Bruce Willis) and Nancy (Jessica Alba) all back for more. Clearly the cast and crew are having a blast making this one, and we can expect a similar look and feel for the denizens of the dark streets. It’ll hit our screens on August 29 next year.
As for the show, maintaining the stylised, CG-enhanced look of the films might be tough on a TV schedule even with Rodriguez’ custom-built facility in Austin, but given the technical groundwork already laid there’s scope for a limited series or miniseries based on other tales from Miller’s canon.
