Another day, another book being turned into a film before the ink’s dry and the copies are even on the shelves.
Simon West Productions has optioned Mark Haskell Smith’s book Salty, and Smith is almost finished writing the first draft of the script.
It follows a reformed sex-addict muso who is persuaded to take a holiday in Thailand by his wife, a former supermodel. But things sink quickly into danger when she’s kidnapped by Thai pirates raising money to buy a new boat. What, they couldn’t hold a telethon like normal people?
The company has now selected a director, and if you can’t guess who it is from the name and the headline, then we worry about you. The Tomb Raider and When a Stranger Calls helmer will be grabbing the microphone and is a apparently a bit of a Smith fan.
"Mark's book is such a great page-turner. It was just screaming to be turned into a movie," West told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's just the thing I was looking for. It's smart, slightly twisted, slightly dark, and above all really funny with great characters."
